Currently, conventional plating following absolute anatomic reduction has replaced by fixation methods which are more effective in preserving the fracture biology in the surgical treatment of distal femur fractures. Distal femur fractures are generally caused by high-energy trauma in younger patients and low-energy trauma in older osteoporotic patients and the success rate of the treatment depends on the preservation of the fracture biology and the use of implants which are biomechanically more effective in accordance with the basic principles of minimally invasive osteosynthesis. In the surgical treatment of the complex fractures of distal femur, particularly accompanied by joint involvement, attempts to preserve the fracture biology within the purpose of complete anatomic repair of the joint surface mostly lead to conflicts. In this article, implants particularly used in minimally invasive osteosynthesis for distal femur fractures and their application in accordance with the basic principles of the procedure were reviewed.
