Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is one of the new developments in the field of regenerative medicine. It aims to enhance the tissue repair process through the local application of autologous bioactive agents to affect critical physiological mechanisms such as inflammation, angiogenesis or extracellular matrix synthesis. The use of PRP and its derivatives is increasing rapidly in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Although promising results are reported, especially in preclinical studies, there are highly controversial results in clinical studies. Differences in the content and application techniques of PRP make it difficult to report homogeneous results in clinical studies. Besides, timing of the application of PRP and changing the content of PRP according to the stage of the specific disease targeted for treatment are candidates to be studied in near future. In the present review, findings on the effectiveness of PRP and its derivatives in various musculoskeletal system disorders are presented, guided by the current and high-evidence literature
