Cartilage lesions can be considered as the beginning of the degenerative process with an increasing inidence which causing pain and functional loss in the joint. They have very low regeneration capacity due to their vascular structure and hypocellular nature. The main purpose of treatment is to ensure that patients return to their normal activities pain free and to preserve joint functions. In our study, current guidelines, meta-analyses and randomized clinical studies were reviewed in the literature by examining the current practice of intraarticular injections such as intra-articular corticosteroids, HA (hyaluronic acid) and PRP (platelet rich plasma) in the treatment of cartilage lesions. Discussions regarding the use of intra-articular corticosteroids, HA and PRP in the treatment of cartilage lesions are still ongoing and there is no definitively accepted opinion or algorithm. Depending on the literature and clinical experience, it has been observed that corticosteroids are used symptomatically in the short term treatment of cartilage lesions, while HA is more preferred in patients who are not suitable for surgery in the medium and long term, since it can stimulate cartilage regeneration. PRP, on the other hand, can be applied symptomatically and in terms of cartilage regeneration in a group of young, active patients with a low BMI.
