Although shoulder instability is a relatively common problem in the general population, its incidence is double in athletes as in the general population. It is necessary to evaluate the degree, frequency, etiology and direction of shoulder instability in athletes by taking a detailed history and performing a comprehensive examination. Among the diagnostic methods, computed tomography along with radiographs is important in determining bone pathologies. Shoulder magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) should be taken and soft tissues should be evaluated. The treatment of shoulder dislocation in athletes is usually surgical. Although it varies according to the sports type, conservative treatment can be applied in the first dislocation. Surgical treatment includes arthroscopic soft tissue procedures or arthroscopic/open bone procedures. Soft tissue procedures include arthroscopic Bankart repair, arthroscopic Bankart repair and remplissage surgery; bone procedures include arthroscopic Latarjet, open Latarjet, or other bone block procedures.
