Just as there may be intra-articular causes of hip pain such as hip osteoarthritis or femoroacetabu-lar impingement, there may also be extra-articular causes such as spinal pathologies, trochanteric bursitis, osteitis pubis, iliopsoas entrapment and trochanter major pelvic impingement. In the dif-ferentiation of these, in addition to examination and the form of the pain dispersion, the applica-tion of an intra-articular injection of local anaesthetic is of primary importance. Imaging methods, examination findings and provocative tests are helpful in making a correct diagnosis and provid-ing successful treatment.
