Amputation decisions in earthquakes and mass disasters is a difficult process. Factors affecting the amputation decision are age, shock, duration of injury, risk of infection and comorbid diseases. The decision to amputate the extremity should be carefully considered, taking into account the patient`s condition and other factors. A multidisciplinary approach is important in earthquake injuries and in selected patients staged treatment should be prefered. Precise indications for amputation include irreparable vessel damage, completion of partial amputations, and sepsis. During wound evaluation and debridment it should be aimed to preserve viable tissues. The decision to amputate should be carefully considered, taking into account the patient`s condition, the amputation site, and other factors.
