Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, can have a significant impact on people`s lives, causing numerous injuries and even deaths. In such situations, the priority is to ensure survival and provide immediate interventions. However, if possible, preserving the extremities is also crucial as limb injuries can greatly affect individuals` quality of life. Limb salvage surgeries, which are often complex and require extensive procedures, play a vital role in preserving the affected limbs. These surgeries may result in prolonged hospital stays and the need for repeated interventions. Therefore, it is essential to have a skilled surgical team with experience in unaffected areas to plan and execute these procedures effectively. Proper techniques should be employed in fasciotomy surgeries, and debridement procedures should be performed regularly and appropriately. Debridement is a critical procedure not only to prevent sepsis risks but also to save the limb. Having a good understanding of wound closure techniques is important, and patients in need should be directed to centers capable of performing early tissue graft surgeries. Each patient should have an individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan that addresses their specific needs. Postoperative follow-up and rehabilitation should be carried out without interruption to ensure not only limb preservation but also functional recovery. By implementing these measures, both limb preservation and improved functional outcomes can be achieved, ultimately enhancing the patients` quality of life.
