The incidence of foot and ankle fractures in elite athletes, especially in competitive sports, is increasing with the rise in competition and widespread participation in sports. These fractures can ocur due to low or high-energy injuries, and it is crucial in the elite category to recognize, properly treat, and ensure early and timely return to sports. Unlike the general population, there are nowell-defined and absolute treatment boundaries for foot and ankle fractures in elite athletes, and there are additional concerns that influence the athletes` decisions. The duration of return to sports activities, immobilization period, rehabilitation period, post-treatment return capacity, and the rate of reaching former performance are important factors in evaluating treatment options. This review aims to present common foot and ankle fractures in athletes, explaining their management and planning for return to sports.
