As a result of demographic changes, the population of elderly people is increasing worldwide and will continue to increase in the future. Therefore, it is estimated that the number of elderly and frail patients undergoing total hip and knee arthroplasty will increase significantly in the coming years. To reduce the risk of complications and improve postoperative outcomes, it may be beneficial to optimally prepare geriatric patients before orthopedic surgery and provide perioperative care by a multiprofessional orthogeriatric team. Many orthogeriatric care models have been developed for this purpose. The features of orthogeriatric care models, which is a current issue, may differ from each other. In this review, the components of preoperative orthogeriatric care models used to improve surgical outcomes in elderly patients and their effects on elderly patients are presented.
