Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allows the diagnosis of acute tendon, ligament and cartilage injury in ankle trauma and detection of the secondary effects of chronic damage. Occult microfractures missed with first-line standard X-ray may be displayed by MRI. In this article, we present the MRI findings of both traumatic soft tissue lesions of the ankle and the chronic impacts of acute injuries, which can be faced in sportive activities and also daily activities at any age.
