Chronic osteomyelitis is defined as an infection that leads to bone necrosis by microorganism invasion, requiring debridement. Staphylococcus aureus is the most frequently isolated pathogen. Local heat increase, hyperemia, tenderness, swelling, discharging sinus, long-lasting pain, tenderness in deep palpation, discharg e from the operation site, mild fever and relieving of the pain after drainage of the fistula are the classic signs. It is classified by Cierney and Mader by taking into consideration the anatomical and physiological criteria of the disease. The bone biopsy and culture are the gold standard of diagnosis. The main principles of treatment are the radical debridement of necrotic tissue, filling of dead space and long-term therapy with the appropriate antibiotics.
