Kienbock`s disease (Lunatomalacia) is an avascular necrosis of a lunate that can lead to progressive pain and dysfunction of wrist joint. The treatment plan of Kienbock`s disease is determined by ulnar variance, stage of the disease, presence or absence of arthritic changes and patient related factors such as age and the expectations of the patient. Although radiographic appearance does not always correlate with the clinical findings, several surgical techniques have been described. Joint leveling, revascularization, intercarpal arthrodesis and decompression procedures such as total or partial capitate shortening have been described in the early stages of the process. Salvage procedures such as denervation, proximal row carpectomy or wrist arthrodesis might be helpful in the advanced disease.
