Osteoarthritis is a common disease and is the leading causes of chronic disability. Osteoarthritis is characterised by multiple articular involvement. Osteoarthritis is adversely affected the subcondral bone, articular ligaments, synovia and other articular structures as well as cartilage. The treatment of disease is beginning with patient education. Non-surgical treatment of osteoarthritis is consist of systemic and local chemotherapy and other therapeutic options including thermal techniques, electrotherapy, massage, manipulation etc. In this article, the prevention of destructive effect of osteoarthritis on joints, to delay the time of arthroplasty and the therapeutic options for symptomatic relief are discussed. The future treatment of osteoarthritis is discussed.
