Fracture-dislocations of metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints are often observed in physiologically active and young individuals. We may encounter cases where functional capacity of the hand is diminished by pain, swelling and limited range of motion, due to delayed diagnosis or inappropriate treatment. A good anatomic knowledge of these small joints and intervention options that facilitate early initiation of rehabilitation will improve the treatment, and achieve better functional results.
