Management of diabetic foot ulcers requires a multidisciplinary approach. Aims of soft tissue reconstruction are closure of the wound, prevention of recurrences, achievement of bipedal ambulation and prevention of major amputations. With the help of repeat debridements, the wound is prepared for closure. Soft tissue reconstruction may include simple skin grafting, as well as complex surgical interventions like free flap transfers. Planning of tissue reconstruction should include detailed evaluation of the foot and patient.
