Discharge education is part of the patient education process, where the patient begins to understand their physical condition and self-care using the experiences and guidance of the multidisciplinary team. Discharge education in orthopaedic patients is very important in terms of increasing patients` independence in their recovery process, reducing hospital readmission rates and ensuring the patient`s active participation in their own care. This education includes information on medication use, postoperative complications, wound care, pain management and physical mobility. Discharge education is usually provided through traditional patient education methods such as face-to-face trainings, written materials and brochures. However, thanks to technological developments, it has started to be provided with digital innovative educational applications such as mobile applications, web-based interventions, virtual reality, wearable technologies. These innovative applications facilitate the rehabilitation process of patients. Patients can easily access the information they need during the discharge process from their cell phones, computers or tablets. Patients can apply the exercise applications that need to be done with applications such as video, animation and virtual reality more accurately thanks to these applications. Healthcare professionals can also digitally monitor the treatment and care process of patients at home on a regular basis. In this context, innovative patient education methods have the potential to improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction. In this review article, the importance of discharge education in orthopedic patients, how innovative education methods are used in discharge education and the results of studies on their outcomes will be discussed.
