The concept of multimodal analgesia involves the use of different analgesics and different techniques of analgesic administration to provide superior pain relief with reduced analgesic-related side effects in total hip arthroplasty. Multimodal analgesia has assumed increasing importance, but still the postoperative outcome may not be improved. Multidisciplinary multimodal analgesia may enhance recovery, facilitates early ambualtion and reduces hospital stay.
