Biomaterials are materials that perform the functions of the failing tissues either permenantly or temporarily until the affected tissue regenerates itself during tissue healing. Metallic biomaterials are the most favoriable materials for the locomotor system surgery because of their biomechanical behaviors. Being knowledgeable about the characteristics of the biomaterials is essential in the success of surgery, in understanding and predicting the post-operative course and in prevention of the likely complications.
