Biomaterials which can be divided into four groups as metals, ceramics, polymers and composite materials are in a constant interaction with body fluids and are exposed to mechanical and chemical effects in the body. This review provides the definitions and summarizes the general information on biomaterials used in the human body in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology.
