Over the last century different theories and techniques have been applied in extremity lengthening procedures. These efforts resulted in the development of fully implantable lengthening devices enabling full weight-bearing and high patient comfort. Hence, a lengthening procedure has become fairly tolerable for the patient and reproducible for the surgeon. Currently, the high cost of the treatment with fully implantable nails remains a negative constituent.
