Surgical treatment of acetabular fractures requires specialization in the field as well as the special interest and skill, technical equipment and institutional facilities. Unsatisfactory results may be obtained, unless the patient selection is performed properly and an appropriate preoperative plan is scheduled and applied. Surgical indications for many articular fractures are not enough to operate on a patient with acetabular fracture. The clinical results of the surgery is directly related to the patients` characteristics selected and the fracture type as well as the skills of the surgeon and availability of the institutional facilities, and technical equipment. An appropriate perioperative plan will allow the surgeon to save an invaluable time during surgery and thereby to attain successful clinical outcomes. In this article, the indications for acetabular fracture surgery were summarized and recommended practices for perioperative planning were explained.
