Despite satisfactory results of total knee arthroplasties, patellofemoral complications are the most common causes of pain and instability and revision arthroplasty surgeries. In this review, major complications which may be seen during or after total knee arthroplasty surgery, including instability, fracture, extensor mechanism disruptions, loosening and wear are summarised. A careful preoperative planning and meticulous surgical technique decrease the rate of postoperative complications. Main evaluation of the reason for complication and solution-focused treatment are required for the complications which may occur during or after the knee arthroplasty.
