Minimally invasive method terminology in flap preparation differs from the classic minimally invasive techniques that first come to mind. Extensive soft tissue dissection is unavoidable in most flaps as pedicle dissection is required in flap harvesting. Therefore, minimally invasive techniques are used in flap design, incision placement, primary donor site repair, and pedicle dissection. However, true endoscopic harvesting of the flap has not been possible. Minimally interventional flap applications are a topic that remains to be investigated.
