Although the term hallux valgus refers to the deformity of the first metatarsal and the big toe, it is extremely important not to overlook the accompanying problems for a successful and satisfactory treatment. The evaluation starts with history taking followed by basic orthopedic symptomatology. Orthopedic evaluation includes inspection, palpation, range of motion assessment of the joint, muscle strength assessment and neurovascular evaluation. Direct radiographs are generally adequate, however it is essential to take the radiographs during weight-bearing.
