Today, the main framework of hallux valgus treatment is first metatarsal osteotomies. How osteotomies will be performed and which fixation method will be used are generally chosen by the surgeon depending on the degree of the disease. After selecting the appropriate osteotomy method using radiological parameters such as hallux valgus angle, intermetatarsal angle and distal metatarsal articular angle, the treatment of the disease is carried out accordingly. In this article, the basic principles that should be taken into consideration in first metatarsal osteotomy applications are evaluated.
