The primary step in the treatment of hallux valgus is conservative therapy. However, when conservative treatment fails to yield results, surgical correction of the deformity becomes the fundamental treatment method. Numerous different techniques have been described for surgery. Nevertheless, complications after hallux valgus surgery are frequently reported across all techniques. To prevent complications, each patient needs to be individually assessed. It is crucial that the patient`s expectations from the surgery are well understood by the physician, and the goals expected to be achieved after surgical treatment are well comprehended by the patient for successful outcomes. Alongside the correctly chosen surgical technique, attention to soft tissue releases, as well as postoperative care and protection, contributes to preventing complications.
