Nursing interventions play a critical role in the recovery process of patients with fragile hip fractures. These fractures predominantly affect older individuals with co-morbidities, requiring complex medical, surgical, and rehabilitative care. Nurses are essential in coordinating and leading efforts to enhance the physical and psychosocial well-being of these patients. Through careful observation and clinical expertise, nurses can detect and prevent complications such as infection, deep vein thrombosis, and pressure injuries during pre-, intra-, and post-operative periods. Monitoring overall health, assessing vital signs, and ensuring surgical site care are key responsibilities. Pain management and psychosocial support are also prioritised to aid recovery. Nurses employ effective protocols to relieve physical discomfort and offer empathic, psychological support to boost morale and motivation, essential for engaging older patients in rehabilitation programmes. Rehabilitation focuses on restoring mobility and functional independence. As part of multidisciplinary teams, nurses collaborate with physiotherapists and other professionals to create tailored rehabilitation plans. Additionally, they educate patients and families on home care, nutrition, and medication management, ensuring a seamless transition from hospital to home. In summary, the care of fragile hip fracture patients requires a holistic approach addressing both physical recovery and psychosocial needs. This comprehensive care is achieved through the professional and compassionate practice of nurses, ensuring effective and humane healthcare delivery.
