Deformity in skeletal system is defined as the abnormal size or shape of the bone(s) secondary to angulation, shortening, or rotation problems. An individual with skeletal deformity may have functional and/or cosmetic defects and their severity depends on the severity of the deformity itself. While the literature shows sufficient number of textbooks, articles, and methods regarding deformities of lower extremities, knowledge and sources about that of upper extremities still remain scarce. Lower limb deformities may commonly involve problems of mobilization however deformities of upper extremities could have deep impact on individuals` lives as these parts of the body are also responsible for performing movements requiring fine skills. The degree of impact could vary by the deformity, from failing to find a job to suffering from nutrition and personal hygiene problems. Patients also commonly suffer cosmetic effects of these deformities, too. This review addresses overview of the treatment approaches for several common deformities of the bones and soft tissue contractures associated with the upper extremity.
