The Ponseti method of management of idiopathic clubfeet has been adopted widely by orthopedic surgeons with high rates of success. After the initial correction, there is an extended maintenance period, during which the use of a foot abduction orthosis is recommended to minimize the risk of recurrent deformity. Conventional ankle foot orthosis alone is not effective in maintaining correction, therefore various foot abduction orthoses have been introduced. It should be kept in mind that regardless of the type of orthosis, adherence to bracing protocols is the main factor for long-term success of the treatment.
